Redmond rolls out video to praise Windows Store apps

Back in October 2012, when Microsoft officially introduced the new Windows 8, the operating system launched with only 5,000 apps in the Windows Store, but the company promised to work really hard to improve it and convince developers to port their software to the new modern OS.

At this point, there are more than 175,000 apps in the Windows Store, and Microsoft says that everything goes according to the plan, so the company has released a new video to explain that, on its modern platform, “apps run smarter” thanks to a number of features.

While Microsoft seems to forget the fact that app quality continues to be an issue for Windows Store software, it’s also true that on Windows the multi-tasking feature is really helpful, especially on touch-capable devices.

A Windows tablet allows users to run up to four apps at the same time on the same screen, a thing that’s not yet possible on iOS and Android devices.

Microsoft is working to revamp the Modern environment in future Windows 10 builds, so expect the touch-optimized side of the operating system to come with new options and a redesigned interface that could make it a bit more appealing to those on PCs and tablets.

Of course, little is known at this point about what’s to come for Modern users in the next Windows release, but in the meantime, watch this video and try to give Metro another chance on Windows 8.1.
