A few days ago, it emerged that Microsoft might actually kill Skype on Mac OS X 10.5 and older, requiring users to update to newer versions of the operating system in order to continue running the app on their Apple computers.

Now it turns out that the company has actually reverted that decision and started work on a new Skype version that would be specifically aimed at this old version of Mac OS X.

In a statement for The Next Web, a company official has confirmed that Skype will continue working on Mac OS X 10.5 and older thanks to a new version of the app that’s now being developed by the team. No release date has been provided though, but it’s safe to assume that Microsoft wants to make it available as soon as possible.

“We have a Skype version for Mac OS X 10.5 users which will soon be available for download,” the spokesperson is quoted as saying.

In the meantime, everyone can still download the current version of Skype, which is said to be working smoothly on all Mac OS X builds. Some users however are reporting connectivity issues on 10.5 builds of the operating system, so you might want to update it to make sure that no bugs are experienced.
