Expert says that Microsoft isn’t helping users too much these days

Microsoft promises to offer assistance to all users looking to move from Windows XP to a newer OS version, but according to an expert working for a company providing automatic data migration solutions, the software giant isn’t really helpful in many cases.

Sumir Karayi, founder and CEO of migration specialist 1E, said recently that “Microsoft aren’t really helping” with the Windows XP transition to another OS version pretty much because they are winning in all cases.

“IT is not a profession where learnings are captured and shared - Microsoft are not really helping [either] since they make money either way,” he said. “If you don't automate, they send in some consultants, if you do automate, you buy the upgrade anyway. They are agnostic about a problem that is a challenge for all their customers.”

Microsoft, on the other hand, clearly needs more and more users to move from Windows XP to Windows 8.1, not only due to security reasons, but also because it wants to boost adoption of the modern operating system as much as possible.

Windows XP still has a market share of 29 percent on the desktop, so it’s pretty clear that bringing as many users as possible to Windows 8.1 would come in handy.
