As I reported a couple of days ago, some security apps available on the market do not work on Windows 8.1, so Windows Defender and the built-in firewall remain the only two choices for users who deploy the first Windows 8 update.
Microsoft confirmed the issue and said that it's now working with partners to adjust their software and make security apps work flawlessly on Windows 8.1.
“There are a few classes of products, like security and system utilities, that typically aren't compatible across Windows versions because they depend on internal parts of Windows. Microsoft works closely with manufacturers of these devices and apps to help them have working versions ready when Windows is released,” the software maker said.
Some security vendors have already started work on Windows 8.1 products, including Symantec, which released beta versions of their tools specifically aimed at the first Windows 8 update.
