Microsoft launches “The Gig of a Lifetime” campaign

Microsoft continues to spend heavily on Surface advertising, this time for a campaign launched with the Grammy organization and supposed to allow a band to perform during a Grammy Live event.

The Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 4 and, in addition to the live concert on the stage, the band will also star in a Microsoft TV commercial.

According to the official rules of the new contest, bands must register before January 20, 2013 and must have a maximum of four members. All bands have to upload a clip on YouTube, Vevo or Vimeo to prove their skills, with users to pick the winner by voting their favorites.

While this is clearly very likely to generate massive online buzz, it is yet another sign that Microsoft is frittering away its marketing budget for a tablet that’s often considered disappointing and overpriced.
