Redmond-based technology giant Microsoft is planning to release Office updates every quarter, in a schedule that reminds of Blue, the upcoming Windows 8 upgrade that could bring important improvements on a regular basis.

Kurt DelBene, president of Microsoft's Office division, said during the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference last week that Microsoft might release Office updates every three months, mostly thanks to the subscription system introduced with Office 365

“We already have the mechanisms in place to update the [Office 365] service on a quarterly basis. With the client subscription...we'll have the ability to do that with client business as well, the desktop version of Office,” he was quoted as saying by PCMag.

As far as Windows Blue goes, this new release is expected to be only the first in a longer series of updates for many products in Microsoft’s family, including Windows, SkyDrive, Internet Explorer and Windows Phone.
