Microsoft has recently released the consumer preview of Office Mix, a new productivity app that allows PowerPoint users to create interactive presentations containing a wider array of media formats.

Office Mix, which is more like an extension to the well-known PowerPoint presentation tool, is still part of the beta development channel, but can be used right now by all those who have previously registered for a preview.

The application requires users to download an add-in which then allows them to significantly improve presentations by recording audio files and videos, add drawings, include quizzes, exercises, surveys and other forms, to create a more interactive project.

“Turn your PowerPoint presentation into an interactive online lesson. We call this a mix. Everything you need to create and share your mix is included. Add audio and video of yourself giving your presentation, write on slides as you talk to them, insert quizzes, practice exercises, and more – all from within PowerPoint. It’s like a screencast, but better. All you need is Office 2013 and the free Office Mix add-in,” Microsoft says about the new Office Mix app.

In order to use it, consumers need either PowerPoint 2013 or Office 365, with Microsoft even offering a trial version of the productivity suite for testing purposes. At the same time, those who wish to view the interactive presentations need a desktop, a laptop or a tablet running Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
