As I’ve told you not a long time ago, Skype is now pre-installed on all copies of Windows 8.1 RTM, thus becoming the default instant messaging client on the Windows platform.

Microsoft has finally confirmed this in a blog post published today, while also revealing some new features that will be exclusively available to Windows 8.1 users.

For example, Windows 8.1 users will be allowed to call a phone number they find on the web when using Internet Explorer 11, a feature that’s already available via the Click to Call plugin offered by Microsoft.

At the same time, Skype will display missed calls and instant messages right on the Start screen and on the lock screen, while also offering full Snap View mode support when clicking on phone numbers in Internet Explorer 11.
