Update your account or lose it completely, it says

Microsoft users are once again targeted by a phishing attack, this time trying to trick them into clicking a malicious link that would in the end steal their login credentials.

The scam email, which is reportedly signed by the “Outlook.com Team” claims that Microsoft will “discontinue support on your activity and security” and includes a link that reads “Update your Account” to make sure that your account is not included in this new removal process.

Basically, users who click this link are provided with a website that looks just like the legitimate Outlook.com page and which asks them to input their Microsoft account details.

Once they enter the Microsoft username and password, both are sent to the attacker, who can use the account for spamming. The victim is then redirected to the official Microsoft website to make everything look legitimate.

Microsoft hasn’t yet provided a statement on this, but phishing scams like this one have become common these days, so you must ignore all emails that require you to provide your username and password or to open any attachments that might be included in the message.

Right now, it appears that the Outlook.com filters have already been updated to block this new scam, but in case it still reaches your inbox, you better ignore it to make sure you stay on the safe side.
