Microsoft is trying to make its product a lot more secure these days but, at the same time, the company also struggles to deliver security updates a lot faster than in the previous years.

According to a report released by Secunia for 2012, Microsoft vulnerabilities accounted for only 14 percent of the overall flaws reported last year, which is a significant improvement over the previous year.

While Google had to deal with a total of 291 security glitches affecting its Chrome browser, Microsoft issued patches for only 50 different vulnerabilities. A total of 41 flaws have been reported in Internet Explorer, 10 in Microsoft Excel and 5 in Microsoft Silverlight.

On the other hand, a top created by Secunia with the top 50 applications puts Microsoft on the first place with 29 software solutions, while third-party developers account for only 21 entries.
