Microsoft is said to be working on Surface 2.0, a new-generation tablet that could be released as soon as this month at the BUILD developer conference.

A report by Bloomberg and citing sources familiar with the matter reveals that Microsoft has joined forces with Qualcomm to equip the upcoming tablets with Snapdragon processors and thus provide users with fast wireless data connections.

The existing Tegra chip that’s now installed on Surface RT will continue to be available, but only on specific tablet models, the source writes.

There are no official details on Microsoft’s new tablet, but some previous reports indicated that the tech giant is considering rolling out an 8-inch device that could compete against the likes of iPad mini and Nexus 7.

Expect an official announcement on June 26, when Microsoft is also set to unveil the highly-anticipated Windows 8.1 Preview.
