Microsoft will soon launch the new 8.1 operating system, so Redmond has already started an advertising campaign supposed to boost sales of the upcoming release.

The company has quietly launched what’s being called a Windows Gift Card, currently on sale at some retailers online, thus offering buyers the option to get specific Microsoft products, including the new Windows 8.1, at a discounted price.

Microsoft doesn’t provide too many details on these gift cards, but an Amazon product page claims that “Windows gift cards are great gifting options at any time” because “they let you easily buy thousands of amazing apps, games, music, movies, TV shows, and more at the Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox stores.”

The gift cards are priced at $15 (€11) and are projected to be released on October 18, the same day when Windows 8.1 is set to be unveiled.
