Users are prompted to update the Band when launching Health

Microsoft has just released the first firmware update for Band, its very own wristband introduced in late 2014 and supposed to help people stay fit.

Even though no official announcement has been provided until now, WindowsObserver writes that Microsoft is shipping the new firmware update to Band through the Health app on Windows Phone and iOS.

Basically, users are prompted to install the new Health app update, and when they do that, a new firmware version for the Band is also being downloaded.

The new Band software version is 1.1.2110.0 09 R, and according to the same source, it comes with general app fixes and improvements, so there are no specifics available at this point. Still, we expect this release to fix a number of issues and improve the overall performance and reliability of the device.

Surprisingly, Band users “need to keep it and their phones very close during the update process,” WinObs writes. Otherwise, the process might fail because of weak data connection between the two devices.

Since it uses Bluetooth to connect to phones, a maximum range of 25 meters is supported most of the time, but it turns out that, for firmware installation, this setup is no longer valid and the two devices need to be much closer to each other.
