The tech giant has signed patent licensing agreements with several companies

Microsoft has recently announced several new patent licensing agreements with multiple automotive companies, so the tech giant is going to receive some cash every time the systems are installed on specific car models.

Audiovox, Continental, Harman, and LG Automotive have all agreed to pay royalties to Microsoft for implement the exFAT file system into their infotainment systems.

“The exchange of intellectual property makes it possible for companies to bring great ideas to market quickly, and keep pace with customer demand,” said David Kaefer, general manager of intellectual property licensing, Microsoft. “We believe collaborative licensing brings the best value to consumers.”

This isn’t the first agreement of its kind signed by Microsoft with automotive companies, as the software giant has also announced similar deals with BMW, Sony, RIM, Canon, Panasonic, and Aspen Avionics.
