The number of apps available for download is definitely growing at a much faster pace these days, but it turns out that Microsoft has actually started cleaning the store a few days ago.

This chart provided by MetroStore Scanner confirms that the number of items published in the store dropped by a few hundreds in the last few days, while some of the clones that we found in the past no longer seem to be available for download.

And still, Microsoft needs to do a much better Windows Store cleaning in order to get rid of all poor-quality apps and a simple search for "VLC" proves that there are still quite a lot of apps that are trying to capitalize on the popularity of the famous desktop media player.

On the other hand, more developers have expressed their intention to port apps to Windows 8, so expect the number of software solutions listed for download in the store to grow bigger in the coming months.
