Windows XP will be retired in approximately six months, so Microsoft goes on with its campaign supposed to put the emphasis on the security risks of staying on this particular OS version beyond its end-of-support date.

Rob Waggoner wrote in a post published on the US SMB&D TS2 Team Blog that staying with Windows XP is “scarier than Halloween,” as the 11-year-old platform is now “entering that antique phase of its life.”

“Let’s not make our last memory of Windows XP one of data loss and downtime because we chose to ignore the warnings to upgrade. Unfortunately, some customers think they will be able to continue to pay their partner for support, but what kind of support can a partner truly provide for an obsolete Operating System?” Waggoner wrote.

Windows XP will be discontinued on April 8, 2014 and it will no longer receive updates and security patches after this date. Of course, Microsoft sees this as a great opportunity to bring more users on Windows 8.1, so expect similar announcements to be unveiled in the coming months too.
