14 DAY TRIAL // Virginia-based Intelligent Verification Systems has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft, accusing the Windows maker that its Kinect technology infringes the so-called “073 patent” baptized “Animated Toy Utilizing Artificial Intelligence and Facial Image Recognition.”
Basically, IVS claims that Microsoft’s Kinect hardware and software infringes their 2006 patent and, although the two companies have already discussed on the matter, no agreement was reached.
IVS sent a letter to Microsoft in June 2011, Courthouse News reports, but negotiations between the two parties came to a dead end soon after that.
IVS asks Microsoft to stop selling the Kinect technology within 30 days, but the company also wants a jury trial and “treble” damages. The Redmond-based software firm hasn’t yet commented on the matter, but more information is very likely to be released soon.
