Even though some people might think otherwise, Microsoft's Surface tablet is quite a popular gadget and statistics do nothing more than to confirm this.

Figures provided by Microsoft for its Bing search engine and the most searched entertainment electronics include the Surface tablet on the sixth position, just after Xbox, iPhone, Android, iPad, and Windows Phone.

As you can see, the Surface is behind its two main rivals, Android and iPad, but it's still more popular than PlayStation, Nintendo, Blackberry, and Kindle Fire.

The Surface product family received an upgrade earlier this year, as Microsoft released the second-generation with better hardware and Windows 8.1.

Both the RT and the Pro models got major enhancements, including new hardware for longer battery life and increased performance. At the same time, word is that more Surface tablets would be launched in the coming months, as the company is working on a smaller device to compete with the likes of iPad mini.
