Microsoft Surface RT, the first tablet in Redmond's history, got some improvements today as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle that usually comes with firmware updates and security fixes.

In Surface RT's case, the new firmware version brings what is being called Surface home button driver version 1.0.255.0, which enhances system stability in both the active state and the sleep/wake transition state.

The Surface RT firmware update is being delivered to devices in stages, so it could take a little longer until your own tablet gets these improvements, Microsoft says.

“When Surface updates are provided via the Windows Update service, they are delivered in stages to Surface customers. As a result, not every Surface will receive the update at the same time, but the update will be delivered to all devices. If you have not received the update, please manually check Windows Update later,” Microsoft explains.

This is the first firmware update that the Surface RT receives since January 2014, as Microsoft preferred to focus on the other tablets and less on this particular model.

As usual, the new firmware is being delivered via Windows Update, so make sure that you fully charge the tablet and then connect it to the Internet to automatically receive and install the released improvements.
