Even though Microsoft has already launched the second-generation Surface tablet, the RT model, which is actually the first version introduced by the software giant, continues to lead the Windows 8 tablet pack, according to new stats offered by AdDuplex.

Data collected on May 18 indicates that Microsoft Surface RT is holding a 14.5 percent market share of all Windows 8 and RT devices worldwide, followed by the Surface 2 with 2.2 percent.

The Surface Pro is also among the most popular Windows 8 devices with 1.1 percent, while the Surface Pro 2 is a little bit behind with 0.9 percent.

Of course, Microsoft has all the reasons in the world to be happy about this, especially because the company is getting ready to debut new models that could help the company compete in the small tablet sector against the iPad Mini and Nexus 7.

At the same time, word is that Microsoft might introduce a larger device with a 12-inch screen and powered by Intel processors, which would obviously offer high performance and support for desktop apps.

Very likely to be called Surface Pro 3, this device would be aimed at power and corporate users, with a price tag of $2,000 (1,500 euros) expected to be announced for the top-of-the-range model.
