Microsoft recently announced the opening of a new beta program for Office that allows users to try out future versions of the productivity suite before they hit the market, but the official website has gone down only a few hours after the official opening.

At this point, the website is only displaying a notification saying that Microsoft is updating the page, so it’s expected to be back online very soon.

“Thank you for your interest in Microsoft Office programs! We are in the process of updating our submission site and expect it to be back online soon. We will be accepting applications throughout the next several weeks and hope you return later in the week to submit your interest,” the notification reads.

The new beta program is expected to provide registered users with early access to a number of quite important projects for Microsoft, including the Android version of the productivity suite and the Windows 8 build that shall go live sometime in the next few months.

Sources said that both Windows 8 and Android could get the Office productivity suite by year-end, but Microsoft hasn’t provided any details on timing, so we’re still waiting for some official details to know when to expect fresh SKUs of the app.
