Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that one of the people who helped improve and define Microsoft's HoloLens experience, Michael Ey, died Saturday morning in a car accident.

KiroTV reports police said Mike's car was rear-ended by a hit-and-run driver going over 100 miles an hour on State Route 520. The driver, who goes by the name of Robert Malsch, was apprehended later by the police who used a dog to track him.

One of the people who witnessed the accident said that he saw Malsch car just blast past his, missing him by about four inches and that several seconds later he saw him a smoldering wrack in the road.

Robert Malsch faces felony hit and run as well as vehicular homicide charges and his bail was set to $100,000 by a King County judge.

Michael Ey's contribution to HoloLens was decisive, and while he thought that it's not perfect, he was convinced that it was going to be perfect one day, said his girlfriend Kelley Piering.

He was only 30 and had big plans and goals, professionally and personally, but now he will be remembered by friends as a “bright light” that has been suddenly interrupted by a drunk driver. Rest in peace, Mike Ey!
