Microsoft continues the search for a new CEO, with several candidates currently involved in the race for the vacant seat, but an analyst says he knows the secret how the next leader could continue the company’s race towards long-term profitability.

Rob Enderle, principal analyst at The Enderle Group, said in a statement for NewsFactor that Microsoft’s next CEO must have the best of Steve Ballmer and Steve Jobs in order to be successful.

“Microsoft needs a very unique candidate; one that understands the business fundamentals like Ballmer does but has technical capability like [Apple's] Steve Jobs did. The ideal candidate would be a blend of the two men. They are not going to get that but they are going to try to get as close as they can and that’s making it difficult,” Enderle was quoted as saying.

Microsoft says that a new CEO would be appointed in early 2014, with people familiar with the matter claiming that cloud boss Satya Nadella is now in pole-position to take over the seat.
