Microsoft is once again reminding users that support for Windows 7 RTM will end on April 9, 2013, so those who are still running the first version of this particular operating system are recommended to download and install Service Pack 1.

While support for the RTM build of Windows 7 will end in just a couple of months, almost two years after the public debut of this very popular operating system, those running Windows 7 SP1 have nothing to worry about, as Microsoft will continue to provide updates and fixes until January 13, 2015.

Extended support for Windows 7 will be offered until January 14, 2020.

According to figures provided by Net Applications, Windows 7 continues to be the number one operating system in the world, with a market share of 45.35 points in the first week of January. Windows XP comes second with 39.08 percent, followed by Windows Vista with 5.06 percent.
