Microsoft has just announced that students who will take part in the 2013 International Collegiate Programming Championship, also known as Windward Code Wars, will receive free copies of Windows 8, Windows Server, Microsoft E-Learning courses and MSDN subscriptions.

The championship will take place on January 26 and requires participating teams to work on specific programming projects for a total of 8 hours.

The winning team will get Microsoft Surface tablets for each member, while second and third place teams will receive Kinect Bundles.

“We run the contest because it’s fun for the students, and these prizes make it even more fun,” said David Thielen, founder and CTO of Windward, the creator of Code Wars.

“Awarding MSDN subscriptions means every participant will get some of the most sought-after developer software in the world.”
