The game will be completely retired from the Store in just a couple of days

Galactic Reign was officially introduced a few months ago on Windows 8 and Windows RT, with Microsoft promoting it several times using the spotlight section of the Windows Store.

Microsoft has just announced the retirement of the game in what seems to be a very surprising decision, especially because the company claims that Galactic Reign has recorded a pretty high success on Windows 8.

The game will be removed from the Store on August 15, while servers will remain available until December 31, 2013.

“The forums will remain available until the end of the year, so that players can still communicate and exchange contacts. We will also continue support the Facebook and Twitter channels from now until server closure,” Microsoft explained.

So why this decision? Nobody knows for now, and Microsoft’s official explanation is rather vague.

“We continually explore new games and entertainment concepts. Galactic Reign was a great cloud-based video rendering game exploration that we are going to bring to a close,” it said.
