Microsoft will officially reveal the revamped Surface product line next week in New York, but sales will only begin in October, according to a new report.

Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley claims that insiders pointed to an October 22 launch date for the second-generation Surface, with both the RT and the Pro to receive several improvements.

Pricing will remain the same as for the existing models, which means that the RT version will be available from $499 (€369) and $599 (€442) for the 32GB and 64GB units, respectively, with Touch Covers to be offered only as part of certain bundles.

The Surface Pro lineup, on the other hand, will receive some new models too in addition to the existing 64 GB and 128 GB tablets. It turns out that Microsoft is planning to provide users with more storage space, so the Pro will also be offered in 256GB and 512GB versions with pricing to start at $1,299 (€960) and $1,699 (€1255), respectively.

While the Surface RT will feature a Tegra 4 processor, the Pro 2 will pack an i5 chip specifically optimized for better performance and a maximum of 7 hours of battery life per charge.
