While Microsoft doesn't say a thing about a smaller version of the Surface tablet, more evidence has been found on what seems to be a 7 or 8-inch device running either Windows 8 or Windows Blue.

No release date is rumored for the time being, but USB analyst Brent Thill said according to Barron's that a smaller Microsoft unit could hit the market by June, when the company is expected to release the first public beta of Windows Blue.

It's not yet clear whether Microsoft plans to launch a Surface Mini running Windows 8 or Blue, but the Redmond-based software maker recently adjusted Windows 8 hardware requirements to allow the deployment on devices with resolutions of 1024 x 768.

In addition, the company has already confirmed some time ago that it's looking into ways to expand the Surface product range but, up until now, no clear indication that a Surface Mini could be launched as well has been provided.
