Windows 9 is the next big project prepared by Microsoft for the Windows product family, but it’s not yet clear whether the software giant wants to stick to this particular name or will pick another designation.

Either way, Chinese website Win8China reports that Redmond is set to unveil a preview version of Windows 9 in the second half of 2014, before a public launch in early 2015.

If this is true, the future release could be actually the new Windows Threshold that everyone is talking about these days, but again, it’s not yet clear whether this would be a new Windows release or just an update for the existing Windows 8.1.

Among the improvements expected in Windows 9, the return of the Start Menu is worth mentioning, but also dedicated options to run Metro apps in their very own windows on the desktop.
