Microsoft is expected to reveal the second-generation Surface tablet on September 23, as part of an event scheduled to take place in NYC.

The company has started sending out invites to media across the United States, but it remained tight-lipped on the products to be unveiled during the event.

According to recent speculation, Microsoft is working on updates for the Surface RT and the Pro, both of which will run the new Windows 8.1 OS update. The Surface RT is expected to be called Surface 2, while the top-of-the-range model is likely to be baptized Surface Pro 2.

The Pro version might be powered by an Intel i5 processor and feature as much as 8GB of RAM, while the RT could come with a Tegra 4 processor optimized for better performance and increased battery life.

In addition, the tech giant is also said to be working on a new range of accessories that might include a Power Cover with a built-in battery and a new docking station for the Pro model.
