Bing Fund is quickly becoming a successful program, as Microsoft is currently supporting four different startups, while new ones are accepted on a regular basis.

This time, it’s Sonar’s turn to go for Microsoft’s funds, as the Redmond-based technology giant has decided to back the New York City-based company and support its app developing efforts.

“Sonar is interesting to Microsoft in a number of ways, both as a product and a business. Extracting knowledge from social signals. Fostering informed serendipity. Real-time geo data. A quality team with a mature service. The possibilities with the caliber of company like Sonar are numerous, and exciting,” the Bing Fund team said in a post.

Sonar is the company behind an iOS and Android application that allows users to find and interact with nearby friends. Even though there are no plans for a Windows 8 / Windows Phone 8 application with the same features, don’t be surprised if such a project is announced in the coming months.
