Redmond is highly unlikely to take the lion’s share in the tablet industry

Microsoft’s new Surface tablets will hit the market in October, but the revamped units won’t make much different when it comes to the market share of the Redmond-based company in the tablet industry.

A report by Digitimes that’s citing the same “upstream supply chain sources” as always claims that Microsoft is expected to ship around 3 million tablets in 2014, which would grant the company a 1.15 percent market share in the tablet sector.

It turns out that Microsoft keeps doing the same mistakes with the second-generation Surface tablet, as the first models failed to sell in big numbers due to the high price and the lack of apps.

While Windows 8 and RT users can now choose for more than 100,000 apps, pricing is still an issue, as the revamped product range comes with the same price tags as the previous models. Pricing for the Surface Pro, for example, starts at $899 (€665), while the cheapest Surface 2 costs only $449 (€335).
