The company will instead include all projects in the Blue line

Windows RT, the operating system developed by Microsoft for ARM tablets, has caused quite a lot of trouble for the Redmond-based giant, especially because many users believed that it could run legacy desktop apps, just like the traditional Windows contraption.

Due to this confusion, Microsoft has decided to stop releasing any other Windows RT products and instead include its upcoming projects in the Blue family, the major Windows 8 refresh expected to see daylight this summer.

According to a report by DigiTimes citing “sources from the upstream supply chain,” Microsoft will thus abandon the Windows RT line for a more aggressive approach under the Blue brand.

While Microsoft hasn’t said a thing about such a plan, the decision would pretty much make sense, especially because Windows RT has failed to excite after the Surface RT hit shelves in October 2012.

Unofficial reports indicated that Microsoft had barely sold 1.1 million Surface RT units, well below the company’s forecasts of 3 million sold units in the first quarter on the market.
