The lack of apps is still considered one of the main setbacks of Microsoft’s new operating system, but the company is slowly managing to deal with this problem.

Just as we told you in a new report yesterday, the Redmond-based software vendor is now publishing more than 1,000 apps per day in the Store, so the overall number is quickly skyrocketing.

At this point, there are more than 55,000 apps available in the Store, most of which are offered with a freeware license. The games category remains the largest, even though some other sections are also gaining new apps at a very fast pace.

In the meantime, Microsoft is also trying to attract more developers to its new Windows 8 platform, either by offering copies of the operating system at a very low price or with the help of coding marathons held in various parts of the world.
