Microsoft continues the search for a new CEO, but a new report now claims that the board of the Redmond-based tech giant has chosen the two leading candidates for the vacant position.

Ford’s Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally and internal Satya Nadella are the two top candidates to take over from Steve Ballmer, Bloomberg is reporting, citing sources familiar with the matter.

While no official statements have been provided on this, it turns out that both Tony Bates and former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop are still in the race for the CEO position.

Surprisingly, the same unnamed sources are hinting that some other people could become front-runners for the CEO position as well, but no other specifics have been provided until now.

As usual, Ford’s representatives have refused to comment on recent reports, saying that Alan Mulally will stick with the American automaker until at least 2014. All the other candidates said to be involved in the negotiations have refused to release statements as well.
