Symantec released the stable version for their all-in-one protection suite, Norton 360. The latest revision is 20.1.0.24 and among the new features it brings to the table are performance improvements for Windows 8.

According to a PassMark test that compares the performance impact on Windows 8 of NIS 2013 (the same technology is used in Norton 360) and Windows Defender, Symantec’s product came out ahead.

It also features better phishing detection based on reputation analysis in order to offer protection against newer threats or less visited sites. Reputation data is now used by the firewall as well.

A completely new feature in this release is the Threat-removal Layer, which is designed to target and eliminate hard to remove infections that are usually no match for other security products.

With Norton 360, you should no longer worry about updates because the developer revised the update mechanism to download patches automatically and without requiring a restart. On the same note, Pulse Updates are received every 5 to 15 minutes.
