Many great things happened in 1987 when it comes to the Redmond-based software giant. Aside from the fact that it recorded total sales of $345,890,000, Microsoft also launched Excel, a product that's still on the market as part of the extremely popular Microsoft Office suite.

Microsoft officially announced the new Excel software product on October 13, 1987, while shipping began on November 19.

It was a key moment for Microsoft's evolution in the next few years and the YouTube video posted above is the living proof. Bill Gates talked about networks just like we'd normally do about UFOs but, in the end, everything proved to be true. And, more importantly, doable. The video isn't quite new, but it's definitely worth watching.

As for our history lesson, during the same year, Microsoft also unveiled Works for DOS, while in December it started shipping Windows 2.0 and Windows/386.
