The Surface with Windows 8 Pro will go on sale on February 9 and, even though everybody expects the new tablet to sell better than the RT version, Microsoft is only planning an initial shipment volume of one million units.

A report by Digitimes citing sources from the “upstream supply chain” claims that Microsoft is working on a shipment volume that’s three million units lower than the one prepared in October 2012 when the Surface RT got to see daylight.

Of course, Microsoft is yet to comment on this rumor, but the company clearly expects the device to become a huge market success, especially because it comes with the full version of Windows 8 and support for desktop apps.

Pricing will begin at $899 (€658) for the 64GB model, with all packages to include a Surface Touch pen to make drawing and writing a bit easier.
