VideoLAN developers are still working on the official Windows 8 port of the famous VLC multimedia player but, in the meantime, several clones are showing up in the Windows Store.

While we’re still wondering how come so many clones are approved for the Store, users are allowed to purchase a so-called VLCmediaplayer that uses the classic VLC logo to trick people into believing that they’re downloading the real thing.

The application doesn’t come with a trial version, so those who wish to get it have no other option than to pay $3.99 (€3.11) for a full license. There’s only one screenshot posted in the Store, while the description is rather vague.

“This VLX media player which is an colour fully and perfectly play the contents with your represent video quality and with in the application bar pause, forward, backward, stop contracts and the playlist, fullscreen modes are available and this media player supports mp4,wmv,avi those formats...” the description reads.

At this point, there’s no review posted in the Store for the app, so we guess nobody had the patience to give it a shot.
