Patch is delivered through the automatic updates mechanism, reboot required

Earlier this month, Avira announced that they were working hard on achieving compatibility with Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.

The first result is the release of a patch that should update the product version to 13.0.0.2761 and its purpose is to do away with any stability problems. This does not mean that Avira products are now compatible with the new Microsoft platform, but it does bring them closer to the goal.

The new patch is delivered automatically through the update system. After installation, a computer reboot is required in order to apply all the changes.

Users are warned of incompatibility problems with Windows 8 when installing Avira products. The message states clearly that the new operating system from Microsoft is not officially supported by Avira at the moment. Full support for Windows 8 is planned for the first quarter of 2013.
