VideoLAN has released a new version of its popular VLC media player yesterday, bringing improvements to the built-in decoders, input support, and encoders.

Now the portable version of the app, intuitively-called Portable VLC Media Player, has received the same updates too, so version 2.0.7 is available for download for Windows users.

The main advantages of the portable version is the fact that you can easily carry it around on a removable drive, such as an USB stick, and launch it without the need for prior installation. It doesn’t affect the computer registry, so it should slow it down at all.

The portable version basically works okay on all Windows versions out there, including the very old XP, but also the brand new Windows 8.
