Microsoft has just announced that its ambitious Project Spark game-developing service has arrived on Windows 8.1, allowing adopters of its latest operating system to create games that can be played on Xbox One consoles.

Project Spark, which was demoed earlier this year, allows developers to design characters and worlds that can be then included in projects compatible with both Windows 8.1 and Xbox One.

Basically, the application gives you the power to create a wide array of games, including third-person shooters and adventure games, but it’s all up to the developer and his imagination. Microsoft created a game in front of the audience during the public launch of Windows 8.1 Preview, so it’s all pretty easy once you discover all its benefits.

The Windows 8.1 application is still in beta development stage, so you’re going to need a special key before starting to create games playable on either desktops or consoles. Microsoft plans to make Project Spark available to a wider user category, while also making games on all devices across its range.

The Project Spark app is only available in certain locations around the world, including the United States, so you might not be able to see it in the Store right now.
