Microsoft presented the new Continuum for phones at BUILD 2015, explaining that any handset running Windows 10 can now become a fully portable PC by simply connecting it to an external screen.

Continuum for phones has the same purpose as Continuum for 2-in-1s, providing uninterrupted work when you’re on the go but need to send an email or work with documents that require a bigger screen.

All you need to do is connect your phone to an external screen and the device with a mouse and keyboard, and the handset automatically scales up all apps to make it feel like you’re working on a PC.

This is possible with the power of universal apps, which allow PC and smartphone apps to share most of the code, so they bring pretty much the same features on all devices. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are just some of the apps that will provide on-the-go productivity with Continuum.

Unfortunately, not all phones will benefit from this great feature. Joe Belfiore said that phones require special hardware that would only be available in flagship devices coming out after the launch of Windows 10, so if you already have a Windows Phone handset, you won’t be able to use Continuum.

Right now, this feature seems to be quite the best way to remain productive wherever you go even if no PC is around, so Microsoft might be right, Windows 10 is the right choice for people who do.
