Steven Sinofsky reportedly wanted to become the next Microsoft CEO

Steven Sinofsky’s decision to quit Microsoft came as a big surprise, especially because he’s one of the main executives who helped the company get back on its feet after the Vista disaster.

While the reasons behind his decision to leave the Redmond-based technology company are yet to be disclosed, Business Insider comes with a whole new scenario.

Citing a source familiar with the matter, the publication reports that Sinofsky left Microsoft because he wanted Steve Ballmer’s job.

Ballmer won’t give up his Microsoft CEO chair until 2017 or 2018, but Sinofsky expected to become the new CEO after the official Windows 8 debut.

Since that was pretty much impossible, the former Windows boss has decided to quit the company and “seek new opportunities,” as he said in his very own goodbye letter sent to employees.
