Skype today rolled out a new desktop version of the client that’s specifically aimed at Windows users, although it appears that a major update is also being delivered to Mac workstations.

As compared to the Mac build, Microsoft only focused on minor improvements for the Windows desktop version, so you won’t get any major features after deploying this update.

Skype 6.16.59.105 is mostly focused on fixing bugs and addressing performance issues, so in case you’ve been experiencing issues with the app, this might be the right moment to update.

The application continues to work flawlessly on all Windows versions, including XP, even though Microsoft pulled the plug on this particular version on April 8, so no other updates and security patches are being delivered for this OS build.

Microsoft has also promised to implement some pretty big UI changes in the desktop version of Skype and the company is already testing them right now, but specific timing details as to when everyone will get these new improvements are yet to be provided.

In the meantime, this new update shall come in handy to all those who are already running the app on the desktop, so download Skype 6.16.59.105 right now to see what it brings new on your computer.
