Skype is officially banned by some ISPs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but it appears that Microsoft’s VoIP platform has started working lately, according to several reports.
Emirates 24/7 writes that users who access the internet using du connections are now required to recharge their Skype accounts, but some are still experiencing difficulties when it comes to making calls.
While PC to PC calls on Skype should work just fine, making a call to mobile phones or to landlines is still impossible for UAE users.
Microsoft doesn’t say a thing about Skype’s restrictions in the UAE and a statement posted on its website lists the service as blocked.
“It has been brought to our attention that our website has been blocked by one or more ISPs in the United Arab Emirates. Unfortunately there is very little Skype can do about this situation. The best course of action would be for you to speak to your ISP and ask why they are blocking Skype and request that they unblock our site.”
