Skype for Windows 8 continues to be the top free app in the Store, even though more exciting programs continue to land on Microsoft’s modern operating system.

Truth is Redmond continues investments in its VoIP platform, so it’s no surprise that Skype has managed to overtake Reaper, Netflix, and Google Search to become the most downloaded free solution on Windows 8.

What’s more, Skype is now being offered as a built-in instant messaging client in Windows 8.1, so the app is pre-installed on all copies of the revamped operating system.

It’s also available on the desktop environment of Windows 8, while Windows Phone, Android, iOS, and BlackBerry users got their own version of the application to chat with friends on the go.
