Back in December, a report reaching the web revealed that South Korea might abandon Windows XP completely for a much more affordable alternative, namely the open-source Ubuntu.

But statistics provided by StatCounter for the last year reveal that South Koreans aren’t yet ready to give up on Windows XP and make the move to Linux, as Microsoft’s aging OS version is still impressively popular in the country.

Windows XP is currently the second top OS in South Korea with a market share of 26.94 percent, while Linux is way behind with a disappointing 0.22 percent share.

At the same time, Windows XP is only losing users at a really slow pace, which makes us wonder whether the rumor was really true or not. Of course, Windows XP will soon go dark, so most of these computers would have to migrate to a new operating system, so it remains to be seen whether it’d be Windows or Linux.
