Start Menu X creator claims that the Modern UI is aimed at tablet users

The Start screen and the Modern UI remain two very controversial features in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, even though Microsoft is promoting them so aggressively.

But according to Dennis Nazarenko, the developer behind Start Menu X, no one uses the Start screen on desktop computers, mostly because it was specifically designed for touch-capable devices.

“According to my information and support request stats, I know that no one uses them on desktop PCs and laptops. The reason is quite simple. Has anybody tried holding a modern ultra book and surfing the web? It’s just heavy,” he told us in an interview.

And this pretty much makes sense. The Modern UI and the live tiles are indeed great for tablets, but using them with a mouse and keyboard could be pretty frustrating. Of course, Microsoft continues to bet big on these features, so expect more improvements in this regard in the coming Windows versions.
