Microsoft indeed listened to customer feedback and brought back the Start button in Windows 8.1, but instead of launching a Start Menu, it gets them to the same touch-optimized Start screen.

Yue Jun, a IObit developer and one of the creators of Start Menu 8, told us in an interview that the Start screen is still not enough for many users, explaining that there’s still hope that Microsoft might bring a full-featured Start Menu back at some point.

“The Start Screen is doing something, but it’s not enough. You know that users usually expect high standards from big companies like Microsoft. Windows 8 users may look forward to a better one,” Jun explained.

Unfortunately for users, Microsoft doesn’t seem to be willing to bring back the Start Menu, promoting the Start screen as the ideal replacement for every device out there. Consumers, on the other hand, believe that the Start screen is better for touch-capable devices and continue to rely on third-party apps to make their OSes look more familiar.
